Gluten-Free Sesame Bagels

Being gluten-intolerant is tough when you’ve already tasted the likes of deep dish pizza and New York-style bagels. I am always on the hunt for gluten-free alternatives. But it is difficult to find products that aren’t loaded with sugar or fat to hide the flavour of some common GF flours. These Gluten-Free Sesame Bagels use a simple mixture of flours and other vegan ingredients. And they require NO YEAST!

I developed this recipe not really knowing what to expect. But I must say I am extremely happy with how they turned out.

They taste like a mix between a bagel and a scone. And although an average Joe might be able to tell the difference between these and the gooey glutinous things, they really are a close second.

Top these off with PB, Granola Butter, Strawberry Chia Jam, cream cheese or your favourite sandwich toppings – the sky is the limit. You may just think you’ve opened your mouth and shoved a piece of heaven inside.

How to make gluten-free bagels

What you’ll need:

First, preheat your oven to 350°F. Then whisk all of the dry ingredients together in a medium-sized bowl. Add the wet ingredients and stir until just mixed.

Divide the dough into 6 pieces. Roll and shape into balls. Then slightly flatten and poke a hole in the middle of each piece (a traditional bagel shape). If the dough is sticky, add a bit more flour to it and wet your hands to shape them.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add each bagel to the pot, cooking for 1 minute on each side. They will stay afloat in the water, so use tongs to flip. Set the boiled bagels on a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds, or other spices (eg. salt, garlic/onion powder, Italian or EBTB seasoning).

Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack and enjoy!
